Get your feet tapping!

After a loved one dies you spend allot of time replaying memories both good and bad in your head. For example, I have asked myself many times did I do enough? Was she happy? Did she go peacefully? However,  last night for the first time in a long time, I seeked out some happy memories. I found old recordings on my phone from when my mom was in the hospital before she surrendered to the fight of Cancer and decided to come home to die.

Below is the drawing video of my mom and you can hear the recording that I am talking about in the background. I also encluded the update that I wrote to our family and friends on that day which explains why the music is important....

Please enjoy....

Update #9

“Harmony sinks deep into the recesses of the soul and takes its strongest hold there, bringing grace also to the body and mind as well. Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything it is the essence of order…”

Plato

Today was a tough day for many reasons, but my mothers spirits was uplifted by the power of music.

After our visit with the doctor my mom wanted to walk to the water fountain in the waiting room. We sat as a family and enjoyed the sunlight and the view of the water glistening its reflections against the rocks outside the large picture window.

A few minutes later out the corner of our eyes we saw a young man with a guitar and a banjo. We asked him, are you going to play music? He said yes, at that moment my mom looked very pleased and ready to escape into the magic world of music.

Later in the day when my mom returned to her room my sister went back and asked the musician if he plays for people in their rooms and luckily for us, we received the gift of a private show. He had a voice that lifted the heaviness of the day and the banjo song brought peace of mind to mom...after the first song, he asked if she had any request and she said “something that would make my feet tap!”

I think music in itself is healing. Its an explosive expression of humanity. I am truly thankful for this man. So wherever you are Pete, thank you for waking into our lives and reminding us that hope continues in many ways.

So my request to you my fellow community let's all put on a record, cd, or an ipad and select a piece of music that gets our feet tapping!
